A record and some rainbows
We’ll learn a thing or two as well.
National blend of models text products
That’s a mouthful but you can basically make a Matrix version of the weather! It’s kind of a neat, quick way to view the forecast.

You can view these on the NWS site but you’ll probably want to find a station first. There’s also a page that defines all the codes/acronyms on the Meteorological Development Laboratory site. I should write up a brief tutorial on how to use these at some point.

A new record!
About the only thing I’ve done for 2,907 days in a row is get out of bed. That’s a win right?
Today marks the 2,907th day that the temperature at #KeyWest has been ≥50°F, making it the longest such streak on record.
— NWS Key West (@NWSKeyWest) 8:39 PM ∙ Feb 5, 2023
The last reading below 50° was a low of 49° on 2/20/2015.
The previous record of 2,906 days spanned 1/31/1940 to 1/14/1948.

Still grappling with graupel
Do you know the difference between graupel & hail? Graupel is snow that melts & become supercooled as it falls through a warm surface and forms what seem to be ice pellets. However, graupel is softer than hail. Hail is pure ice formed in thunderstorms. What are you seeing? #CAwx

Snowy Sierras
I suppose this isn’t news anymore but dang.

Here's a view by region and as @UCB_CSSL noted our weekend storm brought seasonal totals there to 383" that's more than the average for the entire season at 360" #CAwx #Sierra 2/6/2023

I guess one of the concerns now is when and how fast all that snow will melt.
We see you heart cloud
It’s a little early for Valentine’s Day but I’ll take it.

A persistent southerly flow is bringing warm air north - and consequently allowing for much-above average temperatures for those east of the Rockies!

Even though this map looks like the Eastern U.S. is on fire, it’s sort of just showing how much warmer or colder than average the temperature is.
