We made it to the weekend, congrats
In which we earn some stripes and watch the sun set.
I’m melting

Yes, the snow is making like the Wicked Witch of the West and it’s starting to melt. We’ll likely have more info on this later in the weekend or early next week I think.
Worn out on tornadoes yet?
We took a quick look at the convective outlook last time, and some tornadoes did develop. I’m not going to cover them here though except for this (just crazy how they bloom like that):
Tornado Titans has a post with more videos if you’re interested, and Google can show you the rest.
Elizabeth Leitman <> MyRadar interview
We celebrated a first back in February, but MyRadar recently published an interview with Elizabeth Leitman. Imagine starting college and your advisor tells you that you should probably choose another career. Glad she didn’t listen to that person.

WMO annual report is out
The World Meteorological Organization puts out an annual report, which you can find here. If you’re not feeling like you want to read the whole report, there’s a “key messages” section in that post. Some notable pieces for me:
The years 2015 to 2022 were the eight warmest in the instrumental record back to 1850. 2022 was the 5th or 6th warmest year. This was despite three consecutive years of a cooling La Niña – such a “triple-dip” La Niña has happened only three times in the past 50 years.
There’s also an entire section devoted to socio-economic and environmental impacts. This quote is from the food insecurity section, which is something we maybe don’t always think about in relation to the weather.
Heatwaves in the 2022 pre-monsoon season in India and Pakistan caused a decline in crop yields. This, combined with the banning of wheat exports and restrictions on rice exports in India after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, threatened the availability, access, and stability of staple foods within international food markets and posed high risks to countries already affected by shortages of staple foods.
Drought update
I mostly wanted to give an update so I could share a link to this interactive map. California still looking pretty dang good.

Hey, I’ve seen those before

And now, the 2022 stripe is there. I sorta like the one with the scale more.

A quick look at the convective outlook
Seems like there’ll be some thunderstorms out there. I know there’s a wildfire in NC, maybe these storms will help the fire fighters out a bit 🤞

And a look at temps too
It doesn’t seem that long ago that this map was the other way around. The east was 🥵 and the west was 🥶.

Your boy got some solid photos this week
So lucky to live here.

Think that’s it for now
See you next time weather fam.
