Read it you coward
In which we find a scapegoat, buy a radio, and admit sun pillars are our favorite.
Get the heavenly music ready
These are caused by light refracting off of ice crystals. I kind of think sun pillars are cooler though.
22° Halo around the sun this afternoon in #Monterey #CAwx …I bet @NWSBayArea could see it too!

Black women in weather
This Washington Post article covers Black women in weather, primarily the TV space. It was enlightening. If you use Apple News, you might be able to read it there as well.
Buy one you coward
Everyone should have a weather/NOAA radio! Of course I’d say that but for real, they aren’t that expensive, they usually run off batteries or solar power, and most of them double as a flashlight. Some can even charge your phone!
Need a NOAA Weather Radio (pro tip; EVERY home and business needs one)???

You’ve heard of La Niña but…
The Met Office (the UK’s weather service) posted an article about La Niña temporarily slowing (not stopping) atmospheric CO2 rise. Thanks tropical forests!
You spin me right ‘round
I did a double take when I saw this because the cyclones are spinning clockwise. I didn’t realize at first this was in the southern hemisphere, which means cyclones spin clockwise. The hurricanes and low pressure systems I’m used to seeing spin counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere.

Found my next scapegoat
The Deep South will see several rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms tonight.
— MyRadar Weather (@MyRadarWX) 7:28 PM ∙ Feb 8, 2023
Why?
Blame "confluence bands," or strips of gathering air ahead of the cold front. Each one might try to gel its own little batch of thunderstorms that will work ashore.
Tornado risk is present.
National Centers for Environmental Information
I love what these organizations do but typing them out makes me think of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the Marvel Universe.
Anyway, the NCEI put out a report/article about Assessing the U.S. Climate in January 2023. I’m assuming these things are monthly which is cool. It’s a pretty quick read.
Sound on
I don’t mean to make light of a tornado but I wasn’t expecting to hear the insects.

Weather sandwich
We were decently warm here today in Sonoma county but looks like we’re gonna dip back down a bit.
Today's 6-10 day outlook from @NWSCPC has very high probabilities of above average temperatures across the Mid Atlantic and southern New England. #MEwx
