Part of a well balanced weather diet

In which we melt some snow and seed some clouds.

Part of a well balanced weather diet

Ya know what your problem is?

Not enough El Niño resources I bet. The site needs a redesign but there’s some great info there (this was my favorite page). MyRadar had an update recently too.

And if you want a full refresher on ENSO, here ya go.

Alright, enough of that.

We’ve been waiting for this

We covered the snowpack a lot this winter, which means we’ve been waiting to hear stories on all that snow melting. The Conversation put out a great article about the beginnings of those stories. And amazingly, Tulare Lake is back which is a pretty neat story too.

I didn’t know they were still trying this

Cloud seeding has been around for a while, but I didn’t know they were still working on it. If you have ~5 minutes to watch the video, it’s pretty neat.

Dr. Swain office hours coming up

You can catch them on YouTube on Monday, April 24, at 9am PST. I’ll be there!

Checking in with the SPC

Looks like things escalated a little bit from our last check in. Some enhanced risk and critical fire weather.

Tornado Titans put out a recent post highlighting the current conditions and possibilities if you’re interested in the details.

It’s all about balance

And the earth’s is a little off energy-wise. Basically, we have a lot of energy coming in from the sun and of course not all of it goes back out into space (which is partially good because we’d be super cold if it did). That study looks into the difference between incoming and outgoing energy, and where earth is storing the energy that remains. Spoiler alert: the ocean absorbs a lot.

Some satellite imagery for you

Never gets old seeing storms form from this angle. Here’s a link for a larger view.

And here’s what part of that itty bitty piece over Oklahoma looks like on radar.

See you next time weather fam!

We’re getting pretty close to doing these posts without Twitter, which is nice. They’ve been a bit shorter lately, so let me know if you’re missing out on the longer newsletters or if you like them more concentrated like this.
